This year was the first year we had a scratch team so we were put in the bottom league, but thankfully we won our league and so will be playing in a higher league next year.
This was the 4th club championship I have ever played in at tilsworth and I carried on my good record in them, my previous three championships I finished 8th,3rd and 3rd, and this year there was a slight improvement finishing second but still 6 shots off the winner. I shot rounds of 75 ,72. Maybe next year will be my chance to win.
Now my exams are over I have been playing a lot more, but the break has seemed to do me good as we won our scratch match 4-1 and I won my match 1up on the 18th. I was 3 down with 7 to play even though I was only 2 over par and with three birdies on the last seven to shoot a level par 69 was only just enough to win.
This was the first of two junior world championship qualifiers for me. We were playing off the black tees on what was a very windy day so this 7300 yard course felt a lot longer. I started the day quite well with 5 pars in a row but then started to stumble shooting +4 on the front nine, I managed to keep my score at +4 through 15 holes which would have been good enough for 2nd place but unfortunatly I finished triple bogey, double bogey, bogey to finish on a score of 82 (+10) which in the end was only good enough for 12th place. At least I have another chance to qualify at woburn next month.
After winning the first round 5-0 against caddington we had to play rushden golf club in the second round, fortunatly that proved easy for us too with a 4-1 victory without losing a game only two halfs , but unfortunatly one of those half was me, as I didn't play very well at all, hopefully I will improve for the next round
Frozen courses are always hard to play on, especially when your shots bounce 20 yards through the green. However I could not use this excuse on sunday as I seemed to play better on frozen greens, although I still didn't play well. I shot 80 (+11) which is never good especially when you do not make a double bogey. This was a round of steadily bad golf with 11 bogeys and 7 pars. It was a seven over par back nine which ruined my score. I will need to improve for next week when I am going to the grove to play in a junior world chapionship qualifier! .
it was another cold winters round of golf last sunday, i did not play very well during this matchplay round but luckily my partner did shooting 65 gross (-4) so with that score we managed to win 2 and 1 and progress to the next round. hopefully my golf will improve this week as i am going on a golf holiday to turkey with my golf club, i will update you when i get back.
because of all the snow around Bedfordshire i had been unable to play golf for a while, so i resorted to what most kids do and i went sledging. But this time i went sledging at my local golf clubs as all the hills there are very useful for sledging !
this was my first round back in about a month so at first as you can expect i was a little rusty. i was 5 over through the first four holes but my partner kept us at all square, i then managed to start playing golf properly with 13 pars in a row but to ruin it with a bogey on the 18th. this match was quite a close one as it ended up with my partner and I winning it on the 18th 1up.
this was one of the first competitons i have played this winter, as usually i only practice in the winter. today its was very cold and wet but i still managed to find my way round with a score of 73 (+4) so is was still just under my handicap, however the par threes did not help me as i shot +6 on the par threes alone and -2 on the rest of the course!!!
this was the annual event between the junior section and the rest of the club. it was a pairs matchplay event which consisted of eight pairs from each team. unfortunatly me and my partner lost 4 and 3 and overall our team lost 5-3, but it was all good fun until afterwards where i had to make a speech as the new junior captain.
this was the last junior event for the county this year, it was a stableford competiton with a junior from each age group. we were divided into teams of 3. our team shot 109 pts. and i had 37pts shooting a 74 gross (+4). we played a small course called mount pleasant, it is a 9 hole course but you play it twice from different tees but this also means that the greens get a lot of wear on them and being in the second from last group out this didnt help, as for the second nine the greens were very crusty, but i cant complain i seemed to play better on them with 20pts back nine !!!!(+1) gross .
this was the last order of merit event for the year, rounding up a very unsuccessful year for me in the club. this was probably one of my better rounds shooting a gross 72 (+3) and 39 pts, but this was helped by having only 26 putts !!!!!. hopefully this last round has put me in the top ten for the order of merit.
just had a month off whilst my hand has been recovering from some nasty burns. im not quite back into the swing of things yet as i played in the monthly medal on sunday shooting a 77 (+8) gross, it seemed to be the putting that was most affected as i took 38 putts!!!! well hopefully i will get back to playing good golf again soon :)
just finished my first of two weeks of work experiance, i am doing it in the pro shop at my local golf club. i have been able to find out a lot more about all the new clubs that are coming out and getting to try and test them on the driving range ( beats school!!!!!).
not the best weekend ever, really badly burnt my right hand so wont be playing golf for a while ,along with any other sports. it was on saturday night, i was working in the restaurant at my golf club when i picked up a very hot pan; it burnt four fingers on my right hand and now i cannot move them properly. not the smatest thing to do !!! could be out of golf for a while
yesterday it was my 16th birthday so i decided to play in the monthly medal. it seemed after the first few holes like it was going to be my day as i was getting all the luck and level par through 8 holes, but just when i thought i was playing well it all sliped away and i ended up shooting 78 which was four over my handicap. but the highlight of my round came on the eighteenth hole which is a 210 yard par 3, i had duffed my tee shot leaving my self with a good 70 yard to the pin, my second shot was bad too but fortunatly for me my mates ball was sitting on the green about 10-12ft right of the pin, my ball hit this at quite a pace and shot off sideways only to hit the pin and lip out for a two. bit of birthday luck involed there i thnk. :)
just been out for what i thought would be a friendly nine holes with my mate, well i thought it would be friendly. on the 15th hole he cracked a 5 wood straight into my back, your probably woundering what i was doing in front of him, the truth is i dont know. but hey its one way of teaching myself a lesson lol
this was a junior team event for all the clubs in the county. fortunatly for the third year in a row we qualified for the final, but unfortuatly we ended up coming last in the final for the third year in a row. this was not helped by me shooting 83 and our other five handicappers doing worse lol.
this year the east england boys championship was played at langdon hills in essex which is a links course, this seemed to suit me as i have a very low ball flight and play on a course that is usally windy. this experiance seemed to pay off as i shot +2 in the morning and +3 in the afternoon which put me in second place gross. not bad considering i was one of the highest handicappers there .
unfortunatly this was the end of my knockout as i lost on the sixteenth hole 3 and 2. i was up against a 16 handicapper and had to give him ten shots.
just finished 36 holes for club chapionships, it was not very good weather as it was raining for most of the first round. i ended up with scores of +7 and +8 which put me in third place and four shots off the leader.
in the second round of the knockout i was up against a 25 handicap, who i had to give 18 shots to. fortunatly i ended up sinning 3 and 2 but it was a struggle as i was (-2) for the first twelve holes and only 1up, but he began to slip as i won on the sixteenth hole and ended up shooting (-1) for the sixteen holes we played.
it was the first round of this years knock out and I had to play the club champion. fortunatly it was not the best of days for him, but it was for me. I won 6 and 5 shooting -1 on the thirteen holes we played.
just finished 36 holes in the blistering heat. started with a round of 79 (+10) with four double bogeys, which was not the best of rounds. Then in the afternoon I had a round of 72 (+3), but still lost to my playing partner by six shots who had a round of 66 (-3).
I have benn playing golf alot more recently, and it seems to be paying off. I won two competitons last week shooting 69 nett 60 (-9), that got me a two shot cut. And then winning the midweek competiton with 36 nett 32 (-4).
