| Description:I'm 44 and from Cheshire. Just coming to the end my rugby career (about 15 years too late if you ask my team mates), and am now going to be playing a lot more golf. Have played on and off since I was about 9, but rarely play from September to April due to rugby. I've been lucky enough to play all over the world including some of the top courses in the US including Pebble Beach and the Ocean Course at Kiawah, but my favourite courses are the Kings and Queens at Gleneagles and the Old Course at St Andrews. Golfing ambitions are; - to get to single figures (possible if I play more) - play all the open courses (do-able - i've done half) - play at Augusta (not going to be easy) |
Last Friday I was lucky enough to visit Bunker HQ.
It was great to meet everyone and to get a sneak preview of next year's collection which looks amazing.............there are some really cool shirts in some great new colours!
Robert has kindly helped out with supplying some shirts for a team competition I am playing in next month; it's called The Atlantic Cup in which 12 Europeans are taking on 12 Americans over 3 days in South West Ireland. We are playing The Killeen Course at Killarney, Waterville and Dooks.
This is the third staging of the event, previously we have played at Kiawah Island and at St Andrews, and the European Team is keen to claim the trophy for the first time.
This year we will be in our Bunker gear, so we will at least look good on and off the course...........(off course in this event is just as important, as there are points to be won in the pubs as well as on the course!)
I 'll post score updates and pictures on here and on the Bunker Facebook page.
Played in a 5-club challenge at the weekend. Scored 31 points which was OK but could have been much better had I not "blobbed" the last 2 holes! Playing with 5 clubs really makes you think, and is great fun.
Gutted to miss Bunker Fest, but unfortunately the demands of a new job kept me away..........I won't miss the next one!
A great time on the Spanish trip as usual. Played well for first two days and in the money. Great long game let down by a quite laughable short game.
Third day was a nightmare at La Cala. Three heavy nights had taken their toll and leaving a nightclub at 7.30 am before a 2pm tee off is neither big nor clever!
Wouldn't recommend La Cala. Played the Asia course which was too tricked up, and they have the worst staff I've ever met at any golf club anywhere in the world..........pro shop, course marshalls and bar staff - terrible.
Good round yesterday at my new club, Mottram Hall. This was the first of 3 cards for a new handicap and it looked like I was on for a big cut until a nightmare 9 at the simple par 5 18th turned an 81 into an 85!
Finally played my first golf of 2010 with 18 holes at Mere last Friday.
Played pretty well too which was unexpected after nearly 5 months off. Long game was good but short game was poor. Still my partner and I won with a better ball stapleford score of 46 points to our opponents 45!
Off to Spain with the boys in the middle of May, playing Marbella Golf Resort (great course if you are looking for somewhere to play), Santa Maria and La Cala, all accompanied by large quantities of high jinks..........can't wait.
Looking forward to Bunkerfest too, should be a ball............hope the weather is kind.
No; not being chased from the house by my wife for spending time with cocktail waitresses.......................but having a badly injured knee!
I had an operation about 10 days ago to repair a torn cartilage, only for the surgeon to discover a fully ruptured ACL!
This means a full knee reconstruction sometime in 2010, and its going to need very careful planning to fit in with all the golf that is planned (and work!)
Will still be fulfilling my Ambassador duties though.............any chance of some Stella crutches??
Merry Christmas and a very successful New Year to all the Bunker Ambassaadors!
Not been blogging, because I've not been playing!
Weather been rubbish, but also managed to injure my knee playing rugby (again).........and got to have an op on Saturday. Have torn the cartilage and damaged the medial ligament, so going to be out for 6-8 weeks minimum.
Hopefully I'll be back and fighting fit by the spring. Going to use the opportunity with the physio to get really fit and work on my core strength which can only help the golf!!
Managed 18 holes at Mere, which is a Regional Qualifier for The Open, last Friday.
Weather was a bit mixed, and our 2.20 tee time only just beat the light, but you can't beat Friday afternoon golf. A bottle of Rose between the four of us at the halfway house was followed by a couple of pints at the end of the round. A perfect way to start the weekend.
To cap it all, I even played well. Shot a gross 82, which was great considering how little I've played this year.
Onwards and Upwards!!
Mid-September and the sun is out. 22 degrees and time for a quick nine holes.
Played with my wife and truth be told she played better than I did! Although I did disrupt her rythmn somewhat by making her take a few pictures, so that I could finally get some on here in my bunker gear.
Just ordered the new weekend bag, now I just need to go away somewhere................
It's been monsoon season in Manchester, so limited opportunities to play golf.
Managed to get out on Saturday in between the storms and apart from catching a mild case of "trench foot" played quite well. Had my usual consistent start; Bogey-Par-Par-Triple Bogey-Birdie-Par............fantastic!
Got my Ambassador's Bag Tag which is great and am loving the look of the new gear which is on the Facebook page..........want one of those weekend bags!!
Just got back from the caper in Spain. Three days and four nights of golf and fun.
All the gear arrived in plenty of time so at least I was going to look good.
Not practiced much before we went so not sure what to expect. Played great on the first day, 34 points and in the money at Los Naranjos.
Thursday night was not good prep for playing at Finca Cortesin on Friday. Ended up enjoying the local nightlife to excess and scoring the worst round of my life. Great course and in great condition. Really windy on the day and the 7th and 11th holes were straight into it; watch the pros playing these at the World Matchplay in September.
Another big night on Friday, but my body must have been more used to it 'cos I played well again on Saturday at Santana.
A great time was had by all, the gear was fantastic and admired by the boys..........think I might have got you some potential customers.
Fantastic, just been accepted.
Can't wait to get my gear, hopefully it'll be here in time for the annual boys caper to Puerto Banus in a couple of weeks time.
This year, there are 16 of us and we are playing Los Naranjos, Finca Cortesin and Santana.
A highly censored and edited report will appear on the blog upon our return.
